There are two different patterns of visuals - black & white and Color. Life is something on those lines. It depends on how we look at it. That is the point of VN Aditya directed film Rainbow. He is also the producer. Balabadrapatruni Ramani provided the story. A noted novelist, she has good stories to her credit. This is the first story she wrote for a film. Though, it might make a good novel, it might not be that great as a movie as such lines are seen time and again from Sivaranjani to Raja.
Coming to the story, Shyam (Rahul) is a painter. Kamala (Sindhu Menon) is his neighbour. Both are good friends. Swapna (Sonali Chauhan) comes to Hyderabad with the ambition of becoming a film star. She gets help and support in the form of Shyam. Due to an accident he even loses his color recognition. He can see the world only in black & white. Somehow, Shyam works his way to get Swapna a chance in Rajamouli's film. She becomes a star. When Shyam proposes his love, she rejects the proposal. Why? How did she realize his love? Did Rahul get his love? Watch it on the screen.
This is yet another sympathetic role for Rahul. His earlier film Happy Days got him good recognition in his character who is in love with his senior. That also gets lot of sympathy in that film. Rahul did content in the role. Sindhu Menon and Sonali Chauhan did their roles to the need.
Sunil as Sunil Bachchan could generate some laughs. However, the episode with Master Bharat is routine and a bit dragged. Siva Reddy as acting school master is good in his role imitating several heroes. MS Narayana, Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao, Gollapudi are content in their roles. Kodi Ramakrishna, Rajamouli, Srinu Vaitla, Samudra did guest appearances.
Dialogs are okay, occasionally bearing the mark of Paruchuri. Music by Nihal is okay. Couple of numbers are melodious but tunes seem repeated.
Overall, this is a clean film but with rather old styled story.
