KEKA Movie Review

The film starts with the hero Arjun (Raja) enjoying his holidays with his friends in his native place. He meets the heroine Sujata (Ishaani) and after a brief encounter, they both fall in love. Ishaani then goes to Hyderabad. Arjun also goes to Hyderabad and tries to trace the heroine. He learns that she is studying in a college and when he goes to meet her, he learns that she has taken TC and has left.

But to his surprise, Sujatha enrolls herself in the same college where Arjun is studying. The reason is that Sujata’s parents decide to get her married to Kiran (Anup Kumar). So they join her in the same college as that of Kiran.

Arjun and Kiran are best friends. Sujata is now caught between her lover Arjun and the guy with whom she is engaged to – Kiran. Arjun’s friends ask him to reveal the truth to Kiran. After some initial hesitation, Arjun finally manages to tell Kiran that he is in love with Sujatha.

To the surprise of Arjun, Kiran actually takes it easy. He says that Arjun fell in love Sujatha without knowing that she was engaged to him. So he says that he is ready to sacrifice his ‘would be’ for the sake of his good friend. Kiran actually starts helping the two lovers to meet every day.

But is Kiran really serious about sacrificing his love? Or is it all a big drama? This is the suspense element that unfolds on the silver screen.

Performance:

The film revolves round just three characters – Raja, Ishaani and Anup Kumar. Raja, son of Sirivennela Sitarama Sastry is good as the innocent lover. He shows great ease in acting and faces the camera like a seasoned actor. He has a bright future.

Ishaani is another newcomer introduced by Teja in the film. She is okay but no great shakes. She comes across a bit too loud. Raasi has dubbed for her but it does not suit her well. The lip synchronization is also missing. The only plus point is that she looks like Ileana in some scenes.

Anup Kumar is the third prominent character in the film. He plays the good friend of Raja. He does a good job and he also performs well as a guy with negative shades.

The rest of the star cast is passable. There is not much of a comedy and whatever little that Teja tried to inject, falls flat. The guy who is called as ‘Kannamba’ is projected as a comedian but he comes across too loud.

The two saving graces of Keka are the brilliant cinematography by PC Sriram and the above average music by Chakry.

Director Teja seems to have botched up another chance to redeem himself. He seems to have lost his magic touch.

Keka is definitely not in the same league as Jayam and Chitram. Teja has failed to live up to his promise.

Keka is a below average film and it fails to entertain even one bit.
